Summary
Freysmiles Orthodontics is a family owned practice serving the community in Pennsylvania. Dr. Gregg Frey wanted to improve their business image on the web and provide an easier way for users to find information easily.
Freysmiles has a vivid color palette of purple and pink and wanted to use it throughout their site. What I did was use their main colors as accents on top of a white design. I wanted the site to be minimal so that information doesn’t get lost. I also felt the use of white would represent well with the photos, since they would be showcasing people’s teeth. In fact, I gave the header a little twist and curved it to represent smiling too. I used minimal textures but wanted to emphasize photography where I could, so I presented larger photos of Dr. Frey’s patients. I framed the site’s content so that it could be scalable in the future and still provide that unique color scheme that Freysmiles has against their competitors.
I took the design and built it on top of a robust framework with ExpressionEngine. Previously built on WordPress, the new site was given more flexibility without sacrificing usability. Site maintenance is easier and more intuitive. Integrating their blog also helped centralize all of their information.
It’s one of the few projects I’ve worked with a lot of purple, but I felt that I balanced it out enough to make the site still stand out. My goals were to provide a unique design catered to Dr. Frey’s needs, and build a powerful CMS to allow flexible, scalable content.
